"As a teacher, Max always tells it like it is. He is a perfectionist, and he doesn’t let you get away with anything. He always reminds you that there is something that you can do a little better."

Training

Max Amaya has a proven track record of launching the careers of successful riders, which is why Stonehenge Stables is home to national equitation champions, successful national and international grand prix riders, and members of the United States Equestrian Team.

From short stirrup to the grand prix level, Stonehenge’s programs are custom developed based on the individual goals of each student. Max and his team strive to develop their student’s physical and mental capabilities to prepare them for the show ring.

"Working with Max is truly a collaborative experience. When I moved to Stonehenge, I was at a moment in my career when I wanted to have a say in the decisions about my horses and riding and Max allowed me to have that voice. This gave me confidence which manifested itself in my riding, allowing me to compete against the best in the world in amazing arenas such as the Spruce Meadows International Ring. I will always appreciate Max's respect for my opinion and his desire to work with me."

Showing

Stonehenge Stables offers a full-service boarding and training program based out of a beautiful Colts Neck, New Jersey during the summer months and facilities next to the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL during the winter.  Stonehenge students compete in equitation, jumper, and hunter divisions at A-rated horse shows on the East Coast as well as competitions in Europe and Canada.  Our show schedule typically includes events such as the Winter Equestrian Festival, Devon, Lake Placid, the Hampton Classic, and the entire indoor circuit.

We also attend local shows throughout the year for students who are just starting out their showing careers. This allows students to ease into showing in low-pressure situations in order to gain confidence and properly prepare for the competition level on the A show circuit.

“As an adult amateur rider, I needed a special kind of horse. An adult horse has to give you the confidence to make a good decision but also know that it's job is to take care of you. Max said, ‘if you get this horse (Franco), it will take you to Harrisburg.’ I said, “That is great Max, but I don’t want to be taken to Harrisburg, I want to ride at Harrisburg” and so we did. At 50 years old, Max allowed me to realize a lifelong dream of being competitive in the show ring.”
